Pyra and Mythra Join the Fight!

Smash Bros Ultimate Fighters Pass 2 is the gift that just keeps on giving, and today we got to see our newest additions to the roster Pyra/Mythra who are from the highly regarded game Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Nintendo Switch. Thursday morning, series director Masahiro Sakuri showcased Pyra and Mythra in a 41-minute long video, along with the new Mii costumes for Monster Hunter and Ghouls + Goblins.

Pyra and Mythra are one character just as Zelda/Sheik used to be in previous installments players use down-B to switch from one character to the other. Pyra is the heavy hitter; her moves are going to have more launch than Mythra, but her drawback is that she’s slower and won’t have as many combo sets as Mythra. Pyra’s smash attack will pack a heavy punch, but she leaves herself vulnerable to enemy attacks while charging. However, Pyra will be the one who has a meteor Smash. Mythra on the other hand is going to be quick and combo friendly. Her range goes further than Pyra’s and most of her attacks will be multi hits.

There will be one new level which is riding on Gramps’ back; in the background you’ll see the other titans from Xenoblade 2, which fans of the game will really enjoy. Nineteen new tracks will be added as well.

After watching the showcase this morning, I started thinking about how I’m going to use them since they’re so unique to the characters I typically main. Pyra seems to be a heavy hitter with not much recovery, so I think I’ll try to use her in the middle of the field; with Mythra, I would think she’d be fun to edge guard with since she’s quick and can pull off quick jabs and combos.
