Quake Receives Horde Mode in Update 2 from Machine Games

Earlier this year, Quake was rereleased on modern consoles and PC, adding new features, new levels, and received new quality of life updates from Wolfenstein developer, Machine Games. Now, the revolutionary first person shooter has received a new update, simply titled Update 2, to the game.

Update 2, out right now, adds an all new Horde mode to the classic title, sending one to four players into one of four entirely new maps to take on waves of enemies in order to progress. Every third wave, players will encounter a large boss and are required to beat it to proceed to the next wave. Bosses also drop silver keys for new items, weapons, and more.

That’s not all, there’s also a new add-on called “Honey,” where players will “delve deep into the darkness to conquer a deadly plague infecting the land.” This new Quake chapter was developed and written by senior level designer Christian Grawer from Machine Games. The update also includes many bug fixes and frame rate adjustments.

Quake has inspired a lot of shooters over the last three decades. It’s nice to see this version of the classic title continue to receive unique modes and new chapters as it continues to influence the shooters of the twenty-first century.
