Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Gets an Awesome Gameplay Trailer

Two years ago, Xbox made a statement at the Game Awards by not only revealing The Xbox Series X, but revealing a sequel to the beloved Ninja Theory title, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Senua’s Saga shocked the audience by giving them an early look at what Unreal Engine 5 could do, showing off Senua in a village full of people, dangling skulls and body limbs, and an incredible mood setting chant.

This week, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II was rerevealed in an even more stunning six and a half minute trailer with in-engine cinematics moving directly into gameplay. The trailer showed Senua leading a small squad of warriors from the village into a cave searching for the giant. While stealthily moving through the cave, Senua’s issuing commands while hearing the all too familiar voices surrounding her, trying to confuse her and remind her of her past. The squad engages in battle with an injured giant who is still a major threat to the small-in-scale humans. The squad escapes, but not without casualties. It was an epic scene that you’ll have to see for yourself.

This is the most visually impressive game I’ve ever seen and Senua herself is incredibly animated. Melina Juergens’s acting comes through full force with zero compromise in her facial movements, the realistic body movements while running, and the throwing animations while throwing her spears. You can see the imperfections in her braid and the smears in her war paint from her sweat, and the her torn clothing. Hellblade II is going to be the next big surprise from Xbox Game Studios and Ninja Theory.
