Manaphy, the seafaring Pokémon, makes an appearance in Pokémon Legends Arceus and requires quite a bit of preparation before encountering it. This is the first time players have been able to catch Manaphy in a standard Pokémon title, so make sure not to miss out!
Request 66: The Sea’s Legend
“The Pokémon that Professor Laventon saw in the ocean might be connected to the Pokémon that appears in ‘The Sea’s Legend’…“
Request 66 can be activated after arriving at Cobalt Coastlands through the Bulletin Board in Galaxy Hall. Once accepted, Professor Laventon will start a dialogue regarding the request. This was previously teased in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl inside a book hidden away in Canalave Library that read the following:
“Once upon a time in the East Sea, there was a Pokémon known as the prince. A brave human asked Pokémon living in the sea to let them see the prince. Mantyke, Buizel, and a Qwilfish with huge spikes acknowledged the human’s bravery and joined them. Together, they set off in a boat over the sunset-streaked sea, sailing through the ocean gate stretched over the waves. News of this reached the ears of the prince, who went to meet the brave little party at the Seaside Hollow.”
While Professor Laventon will also describe what’s required, it’s interesting that the book did also. With that, make way to Cobalt Coastlands along with Mantyke, Buizel, and an Overqwil and head toward the large arch in the ocean at sunset. If these Pokémon haven’t been captured yet, Mantyke can be found in Cobalt Coastlands around Tranquility Cove, Buizel can be commonly found near bodies of water south of Horseshoe Plains or west of Nature’s Pantry, and Overqwil can be obtained by evolving a Qwilfish found in Cobalt Coastlands just past Lunker’s Lair. Qwilfish will evolve into Overqwil after using Barb Barrage in Strong Style 20 times.
After reaching the arch at sunset with the required Pokémon, Manaphy’s cry can be heard in the distance. This activates Manaphy to appear inside a cave known as Seaside Hollow that can be found west of Seagrass Haven. At this point, Mantyke, Buizel, and Overqwil can be boxed.
Heading inside Seaside Hollow, Manaphy will start to pursue along with three Phione. Be sure to save prior to engaging as this encounter can only occur once. Manaphy appears at level 50 and the three Phione range in the low 30s. It can be difficult to take them on all at once, so try to wait for one to charge and separate themselves from the pack.
Congratulations, Manaphy and Phione have been captured! The cave will start spawning Octillery upon reentry. Head back to Professor Laventon to receive a Comet Shard for completing the request.
