VGC has sourced The Happy Warrior with a report that Warner Bros. has made the decision to pull Gotham Knights from sale in Russian territories. After being originally announced in August 2020, Gotham Knights was set to feature Russian dubbed voices and Russian subtitles but the report indicates that support for the language is being scrapped.
While the news that Gotham Knights has truly been canceled for Russian territories has not been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal or their parent company Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., this action would add Warner Bros. to the list of companies that have pulled titles from sale in Russian territories. That list continues to grow and includes big names like Sony Interactive Entertainment and Nintendo.
Also of note, when trying to access the dedicated Russian website portal for Gotham Knights, users encounter a 404 error page.
Gotham Knights will be a next-gen release coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and is currently slated for release on October 25, 2022. The game will feature co-op gameplay allowing gamers to play as Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Hood in a new original storyline that is not part of the Batman Arkham continuity.
Gotham Knights development is being led by creative director Patrick Redding, who has previously directed Ubisoft titles Splinter Cell Conviction and Splinter Cell Blacklist.
What do you think of the news of Gotham Knights being canceled from release in Russian territories? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
