Spider-Man: Freshman Year to Release in 2024

During today’s Marvel Animation panel at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that the animated prequel series Spider-Man: Freshman Year will release on Disney Plus in 2024.

The show, which follows Peter Parker (not voiced by Tom Holland) in his pre-Captain America: Civil War days, will also have a stacked cast of characters, including Nico Minoru (from Runaways), Harry Osborn, Chameleon, the Scorpion, Rhino, and Doctor Otto Octavius. These characters are a surprising addition, considering that Scorpion played a minor role in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Harry Osborn’s father, Norman, and Dr. Octavius were two of the main villains in Spider-Man: No Way Home, albeit the versions of the characters from Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man films.

More perplexingly, however, is the inclusion of Charlie Cox as Daredevil in the series. We knew Cox was returning as Daredevil and even saw him as Peter’s lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but that movie made it clear that Peter had no idea Matt Murdoch had special abilities, so I’m interested to see how he will be involved in this series.

Though no trailer was shown for the series, as it is still two years away, we did get a glimpse of some of the main cast as well as the announcement that a season two will come after, called Spider-Man: Sophomore Year.
