Study Reveals Favorite Video Games in Each State

A recent study highlighted U.S. gaming habits through finding the alleged favorite game in every state and the District of Columbia.

Experts at the online game Minesweeper utilized data from How Long To Beat, cross-referencing with Google trends search data from the first half of 2022 to finalize their results.

The data from How Long To Beat, a website dedicated to gaming statistics, was the top 25 most popular games. The site relies on submitted information.

According to the list, Grand Theft Auto V was the top game in 15 states, a game released almost a decade ago. God of War (4), Horizon Zero Dawn (4), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge (4), Hades (3) and Doom (3) all made multiple appearances of the list.

It can be extremely difficult to pinpoint the favorite game in each state, but lists like these do make for a fun breakdown. It’s always interesting to see what regions of the country gravitate to certain games, allowing for a peak into the culture of each state.

Furthermore, what’s also interesting is the omissions from this list with games such as Fortnite missing. There are numerous logical reasons for this such as players not searching for info on that game, thus reflecting a potential flaw in the study. Still, this is a great foundation of insight.
