Skybound Games Announces Wrestling RPG WrestleQuest’s Debut Window on PC, Consoles

WrestleQuest, a 16-bit role-playing game based on professional wrestling, will release on PC and console in May 2023.

Publisher Skybound Games made the announcement during Nintendo’s recent Indie World Showcase. The game, which Mega Cat Studios developed, will release on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch as well as Steam on PC.

WrestleQuest combines the mechanics of a standard turn-based RPG and the unique backdrop of the world of professional wrestling. Players control a rookie wrestler as they journey through a universe that combines wrestling and fantasy elements.

The game will feature 30 real-life wrestlers including “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, The Road Warriors, Sgt. Slaughter, and Andre the Giant. These wrestlers’ careers serve as inspiration for the worlds the player can visit.

The game’s combat appears to be in the form of wrestling matches but with standard RPG mechanics. The matches will utilize traditional pro wrestling gimmicks and moves.

Pixel art is the chosen style for this game and the wrestlers incorporate an action figure look. Players can customize their wardrobe, gimmick, and entrance over the course of the game.

Skybound Games and Mega Cat Studios originally announced the game in March of this year. At the time, they revealed the systems and other gameplay features.

Mega Cat Studios has developed numerous games in the past including Coffee Crisis, Bite the Bullet, and Little Medusa

Skybound Games is part of the larger Skybound Entertainment, which The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman founded alongside David Alpert. It has published numerous indie games along with The Walking Dead games.

This news is so exciting not just for gamers, but also for wrestling fans like myself. I’m a big fan of RPGs and pro wrestling so to see the two combined is beyond exciting.

WrestleQuest has jumped to the top of my wish list and I hope to see more about it ahead of its May release.
