New Trailer Showcases Marvel’s Midnight Suns Combat System

A new trailer is out for Marvel’s Midnight Suns showcasing the game’s unique battle system.

Players can expect a turn-based combat system that utilizes various cards for each hero as part of the tactical role-playing game format. The trailer dropped ahead of Midnight Suns’s Dec. 2 release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC with no specific date for the Nintendo Switch.

The trailer showcased how players can equip characters with various abilities through cards in a deck. Cards can grant various effects including healing, damages, buffs, and summoning allies.

Characters then engage in turn-based combat that features cinematic and intense battle animations. The combat also requires players to pay attention to various effects that occur in the heat of battle.

Character abilities will also depend on the surrounding environment, the trailer highlighted.

The trailer also showcased the heroism points system. It appears some cards will provide heroism points while other cards will require some to operate. Once players hit the necessary points, they can unleash large hero moves.

Along with the card-based combat system, players can also expect limited movement to further enhance the strategic factor.

Players will control the protagonist known as the Hunter, the child of antagonist Lillith and the one who defeated her prior to the main story. Lilith returns centuries after her defeat and attempts to bring back her master Chthon.

The Hunter teams up with Marvel characters including Wolverine, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange to defeat Lillith. The game won’t be limited to the starter characters as there are plans for downloadable content that will introduce new characters. There will also be a season pass.

Firaxis Games, the studio behind Civilization and XCOM, is developing Marvel’s Midnight Suns while 2K is publishing it.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns will arrive after experiencing a delay earlier this year after an initial announcement in 2021. Firaxis Games revealed the new release date during the D23 Expo earlier this year.

Along with a new release date, Firaxis Games revealed a series of YouTube prequel shorts to help fans prepare for the game.

This is a unique approach for Marvel as typical superhero games follow the action-adventure format with more real-time combat. I’ve been intrigued with title for a while and the combat trailer helps further that interest.
