Nintendo released the final trailer to The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom on April 13th. Releasing on May 12, 2023, Nintendo’s anticipated adventure will grace players with a huge world to explore, creative ways to interact with it, and a story wrapped up in a mystery that many of us are still pondering about. Before we get experience it though, let’s take a look back on how everything led up to this moment before the game’s worldwide release.
On June 11, 2019, General Manager of the Entertainment Planning & Development Division, Shinya Takahashi, was wrapping up their E3 Nintendo Direct after they revealed that Banjo-Kazooie was coming to smash. Before the presentation was over, he stated “we have one more surprise” and then presented an unannounced game that we were surprised to see.
We start to see squiggly lines appear and most thought it was Splatoon 3, but it wasn’t. Take a look at how this unannounced game was revealed.
Yes, it was the sequel to The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. The reaction to the Nintendo Direct was already positive, but this announcement got many people coming up with theories and analyzing what could the game be about.
On June 15, 2021, a new trailer was revealed to show off more of the game and placed the release period sometime in 2022. With a wide shot of Link falling from the sky, we were in for a new adventure that not only took place in Hyrule on the ground but also the sky. Watch the trailer below to see what the hype was all about.
With Eiji Aonuma and the Zelda team preparing for a 2022 release, everything seem ready to go, but we got some sad news on March 22, 2022. Nintendo released a tweet with an update for the sequel to The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. Check out the video on what Aonuma had to say while also seeing some new footage about the game.
With the delay to Spring 2023 and still no finalized name for the game, players were becoming worried about the project. Many though still felt hopeful and accepting of Nintendo’s honesty.
As time passed, the gaming industry moved on until September 13, 2022, when Nintendo held a 40-minute Nintendo Direct. Hosted by the Senior Executive of Nintendo, Yoshiaki Koizumi, ended the show with one last trailer, and what we got was not just hints of the story, but some new areas, and a title: The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom. It was the first official trailer and not a teaser. We also get a release date for the game too! Take a look below.
It’s 2023 and talk of The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom has risen to the top of discussion (mostly, if the game would be delayed again). Well, on February 8, 2023, Nintendo released another Nintendo Directed that was hosted by Shinya Takahasi. He presented the second trailer for Tears Of The Kingdom. In this trailer, we got a deep, dark voice that desired ruin and destruction to befall Hyrule. It highlighted how dangerous the world can be and enemies you will encounter. It also displayed new game mechanics for you to travel and fight enemies. Take a look at the trailer below.
In the final stretch prior to this game’s release, Eiji Aonuma played ten minutes of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. On March 29th, 2023, Aonuma showcased new abilities like Recall, where you rewind time and Fuse, where you’ll fuse weapons and parts to form vehicles. Take a look at the video for more insight!
Now, the moment has arrived as the final official trailer has revealed a ton of information yet, still held some things back for us to find. On April 13, 2023, Aonuma presented the last trailer that showed us the reveal enemy to the hidden voice in the second trailer and we come to find out that Ganandorf has risen and now set to rule over Hyrule. Check out the explosive trailer below.
With that everyone, that is the road we have traveled as we wait patiently for May 12th. With all the videos out for The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, there is still a lot we don’t know about the game, but we all are giddy with joy to finally get our hands on the game. With a big focus on story, some exceptional voice acting and music, and places to discover, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom really seems to be Nintendo’s biggest game ever.
