2023 has been rich with games. For me, it feels like my to be played pile is threatening to overwhelm me. Between PC, Playstation 5, and Nintendo Switch games, there’s just so much that I want to invest in.
Earlier this year, I had the chance to set myself up for a multi-day gaming session. For three days, I sat on my couch and played through Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life and had a blast doing it.
Knowing I was going to let myself play as much as I could over a small amount of time, I did a few things to prepare for this marathon. Today, I want to share them with you.
- Food prep

The night before the game released, I made a bigger dinner even though I lived by myself at the time. The idea was that I would have a couple of days worth of meals from it.
After I ate dinner, I packed up the leftovers into meal size portions and stored them in the fridge. That way, when I was in the middle of my marathon, I could grab and go and still get a well-rounded meal and not constantly eat junk food.
2. Allow Time For Exercise/Fresh Air

One of the biggest reasons to avoid these multi-day gaming sessions is that you don’t allow time for fresh air and exercise. With that in mind, I allowed time for it. Either I went to the gym or the pool at my apartment complex for at least an hour a day to make sure that I was getting outside, getting fresh air, and not constantly looking at the screen.
3. Allow Time For Breaks

And this is outside the above times for fresh air and exercise. Even if you don’t go far. This can be to refill drinks or to just step away from the game for a bit. My favorite activity to do would be to read. I’d curl up with a book for a bit, clear my head, and then turn back to the game to have more fun.
4. Make sure to get a full nights sleep

This may sound like the exact opposite of what gamers do, but it’s vitally important especially if you’re gaming consistently over the course of several days. We need sleep and if you don’t allow time for that, by the end of your session, you’ll find yourself not enjoying yourself as much.
I’m not saying you need to get them in the traditional hours. After all, there is such a thing as blackout curtains.
Having the chance to sit down for days at a time to play video games can be a lot of fun. Hopefully my tips help you make the most of the experience should you ever find yourself with the chance to do it.
