My Steam library used to be out of control. I had all my games listed down the column on the left side of the window and would scroll for ages looking for whatever game spoke to me.
It was a mess.
But then a friend showed me how to organize my library and it was a game changer. I had things sorted and it was easier to find.
There was just one problem.
I forgot to keep it up and it’s inching towards out of control again. As I re-organize my library, let me walk you through the steps of how to keep your library organized to optimize your time to just play.
- Create A Folder

Right click a game of choice. From there choose your category. You can create your first (or a new category) and name it right there.
Speaking of names…
2. Give it a fun name!

As you can see from some of mine, half the fun was in the nicknames I gave the categories. It’s a good way to lift your spirts and help you remember where you put your favorite games.
It’s okay if you have a folder for things that don’t quite fit with other categories.
3. Add games to the folder

Go down your library and add everything in. It will take some time the first time you do it but it’s worth it in the long run.
4. Add and adjust as needed

Have a new game? Put it in a folder. Want a new category? Make it! Get like me and have a long list of games that need to find homes? Better late than never.
Hopefully I won’t let my Steam Library get back out of control again. I was on a streak for a while where I added new games to their appropriate folders as I got them.
Perhaps that can be a New Year’s resolution for me. Or maybe I will call this an early start to Spring Cleaning.
