MythWalker is a mobile geolocation fantasy RPG coming to iOS and Android devices. In MythWalker, a mysterious person known as The Child calls out to you through your device and proclaims you as the MythWalker. You are asked to help save her world from a dark and evil presence known as The Destroyer. At PAX West, I got some hands-on time with the game. Check out the trailer to see this fantastical adventure.
I met with Creative Director Jesse Snyder and Lead Animator Dave Oelkers. Jesse worked on major titles from the Call Of Duty series and Halo 4 while Dave worked on well-known action titles like Mark Of Kri, Splatter House for PS3 and Xbox 360, and the action-adventure MMO Defiance.

I got to choose what kind of character I wanted to make, choosing between Human or Wulven. Of course, I had to choose Wulven. The crisp animation of my character was fluid and cute. I got to select the head, facial features, colors of my Wulven, and body type. There were many choices to make but this time, I went for something simple. With all the options available, you can spend hours in creating your character to your liking.
As I started the demo, I could tap into enemies that were on the map. With the different colors of the enemies, you can see the challenge of that battle. Since I saw a green enemy, I could have a fair challenge where if I saw a red one, I would lose in battle due to it being very difficult.

When I began to fight the enemy, it went to auto-battle mode, and with the special abilities on the right side in circles, one touch would pull off that move. The more you fight, the more experience you will accumulate, and the rewards you will receive will help you buy more items. It also includes resource mini-games for you to play to help you craft better weapons and equipment. With the right timing, you can receive more materials.
Since I was playing a demo of the game, I could see there will be areas to visit in the game and more businesses that will offer you items to help you on your quest. There will be microtransactions but nothing major unless you want to buy it. The game will not force you to buy anything.

I came away very impressed and, for my first geolocation game, MythWalker has a lot of promise as a game you can enjoy and invest your time. The game also offers co-op mode so you and another person can adventure out and save the world. You can sign up for the closed beta on the game’s website.
