Renowned publisher of physical video games, Limited Run, has turned ten years old. To commemorate this impressive milestone, Limited Run held a special anniversary event at their retail store in Cary, North Carolina. After taking pictures, speaking to customers and employees alike, conducting interviews, and shopping so I can experience the physical vault, I can now sit down and decompress. If you missed the event or curious to learn more about Limited Run, I had the pleasure of getting a behind-the-scenes look. Here are all my post-event impressions:
I arrived at the Limited Run retail store at 9:30AM. The event officially started at 10AM, and there was a line that wrapped around various corners and down stairwells. After a warm welcome from the Limited Run team, I choose to hang outdoors and get some thoughts from customers.
Limited Run Retail

I’ve never been to the retail store before, and let me tell you, it was a VIBE. With lots of pink neon and retro-style carpeting, I felt right at home. Even the faint smell of popcorn made me yearn for the Blockbuster days. The retail store is modest in size and primarily organized by platform, and the games were in alphabetical order. To the left were trading cards and Press Run books. Then come the video games: the Nintendo Switch titles, followed by PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox toward the center of the store.
At the far end, Limited Run retail also had pre-owned games. Looping that same back corner, I also saw plenty of non-Limited Run used games on platforms such as PlayStation 2, Wii, WiiU, and much more. It was a pleasant surprise to see, and I had fun rifling through their selection. Lastly, they Limited Run merch to the far right.

Getting to Know Limited Run as a Company
I gleaned a lot, not just from interviews, but also with observation. I stayed at the event until about 5:30PM, and there are definitely a few things I walked away with:
- Limited Run wants to put the fans first: I’ve personally witnessed Limited Run helping customers in all ways that they can, ensuring their experience was not only enjoyable but fair.
- Limited Run cares about the customer experience: I’ve overheard Limited Run employees openly tell customers to share any constructive feedback or even ping them for ideas of physical media that they want to see. I was even told to share any negative feedback with them (I didn’t hear any).
- Passion comes first: Many games they’ve worked on are because someone on the team is passionate about it. There was a consistent theme that Limited Run wants to put of a top-notch product, learn from any mistakes, and focus on what people love.
- We need to break the spell of misconception: Like with any company, topic, idea, there will be online trolls. While we can’t eliminate them, we can spread some insightful truths about how Limited Run operates. You can learn a lot about Josh’s mindset and facts about the Embracer group acquisition in my interview.
- Limited Run has integrity: I found integrity not just because people told me, but rather, in the actions witnessed at the 10th anniversary event.
- The gaming community is awesome: I met so many wonderful people, customers and employees alike, that had no problem chatting with me about games they love. There is a fondness and enthusiasm they were willing to share with me. If there was a game I didn’t know about, there was no judgment.
- Limited Run hires passionate gamers: See the next topic!

Chatting with Limited Run Employees
After taking lots of pictures, I hid in the employee room to start writing articles. Some of the best interactions I had all day were the hard-working people at Limited Run. Even though no one was obligated to interact with me, every single person said hi, and most times, got into a conversation about games. I felt a genuine, warm welcome from each individual, which spilled over to the passion they had for their job. Not a single person complained to me about how busy things were, and they love for gaming is fueled by a job at Limited Run.

I even got into a wonderful conversation about the Switch 2 physicals, and the dilemma with game key cards (Check out my news coverage on how Limited Run plans to handle these). I was able to listen to a variety of perspectives, all in a respectful manner. This type of discussion is one that I wish we had more often online, but as we all know, the loud and obnoxious trolls ruin that experience for many. I honestly felt a growing bond with these wonderful people, and their attitudes–even as the day dragged on–were a shining example of how employees should feel in a work environment.
Meeting Special Guests
I certainly can’t gloss over some big names that walked through those doors. I had the pleasure of meeting several people: Justin Silverman at Retroware, Seth Fulkerson of Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore (I got an autograph!), Jeremy Parish of Press Run, and I even got to brush shoulders with Yuzo Koshiro, composer/director of Earthion and Streets of Rage and Mitsuhiro Arita, illustrator of Pokémon and Marvel Comics.

This was an event I soon won’t forget. I’ve learned so much about Limited Run, from their origins to their ongoing goals. The 10th anniversary event sailed smoothly throughout the day with minimal hiccup. I honestly was impressed at how well organized everything was and how much fun everyone was having. I even noticed some customers that stuck around for several hours! I hope you enjoyed following my journey to Limited Run retail, and stay tuned for LRG3 and announcements from the company. Forever Physical!
A Big Thank You
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every single customer that spoke with me and shared their favorite games. Thank you to Josh, Jeremy, and all the lovely people that worked that day. You all put your best foot forward to make this a positive experience for everyone, and now that I was able to witness it in person, I can say I felt the passion. Thank you for your hospitality and thank you for fighting to keep physical games relevant.
