If you’ve picked up Hades II, you’ve likely been sucked into its addictive runs, including myself. While dressed in many similarities as the original, it also firmly plants its own identity. This includes your arsenal of weapons that cater to all types of playstyles. What is your weapon(s) of choice in Hades II?
There are six weapons total in Hades II, although some aren’t available immediately. The weapons are the Witch’s Staff, Sister Blades, Umbral Flames, Moonstone Axe, Argent Skull, and the Black Coat. Each seems to cater to a particular play style, moreover, some surprised me how powerful they could be with the right Boons.

While the initial Witch’s Staff proved decent in my first few runs, I quickly adapted well to the Sister Blades, Lim and Oros. They work quickly and best of all, provide a ranged attack option. The specials include throwing a handful of blades that fan out. Even though I tend to be a close-range melee fighter in most games (video and table-top), fighting at a distance allowed me to last longer. I matched the Sister Blades with elemental attacks that would burn, shock, etc, enemies upon contact.

The weapon that surprised me the most was the Argent Skull. You are equipped with four skulls that you hurl at enemies, and you must retrieve them in order to use them again. I thought the Argent Skull was a first-class ticket to Hard Mode, but it turns out to be an amazing weapon, especially with the right Boons. I guess you could say that with any weapon; however, when played right, the Argent Skull took me the farthest (and fastest) than any weapon I’ve tested.

Boons I’ve relied on for the Argent Skull included one that returns the skulls for you, adds more skulls to your arsenal, and causes your skulls to explode when retrieved. Toss in additional arrows from Artemis, and you can wreak havoc on even the meatiest enemies in seconds.
I can see some individuals favoring the Moonstone Axe if they prefer tanking their way to the top. The axe inflicts devastating damage, and you can hurl yourself around the arena with it. However, for me, the slower wind up caused me many fatal mistakes.
Hades II does a great job encouraging you to try out all their weapons, although it’s easy to fall into one or two ‘ol reliables. Which weapon(s) do you favor? Please share your thoughts with us on our Boss Rush Facebook Group or our Boss Rush Discord.
