A recent developer blog post for the upcoming Silent Hill: Townfall provides a hidden message for fans, which has also been hinted at before during February’s “Silent Hill Transmission” stream.
Developer Screen Burn Interactive shared on Monday a quick post that seemed to offer an update to how the game was progressing. However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out that the first letter of the stylized message, consisting of short lines rather than full sentences, spelled out an interesting phrase.
The full post is presented below:
we have shown a glimpse
happy to see it breathe
a much larger story than we’ve told before
taking the time to get it right
inside the fog, hard at work
seeing it all come together
ever grateful for the opportunity
it’s a dream / nightmare come true
given time to make it right
haunted / not by ghosts
the island pulls us in
not a place I remember
inside that room
not staying / can’t stay forever
each minute excruciating
tell me we’ll be ok
each minute excruciating
each minute excruciating
no one will tell me
?
As you can see, the first letter of each lines reads: “WHAT IS EIGHT NINETEEN?”
While the question doesn’t seem all that strange at first, fans have already been pondering its significance ever since February’s “Silent Hill Transmission” video, which gave viewers the first detailed look into the title. As part of the video, the development team shared some scouting locations which inspired the game’s northern Great Britain setting, and throughout this section, license plates were all obscured by a fairly blatant bar which simply read “08:19.”
Stills from the video can be witnessed below:
At this time, it’s unknown the number’s significance, and it is very likely that we won’t found out until the game officially releases later this year for the PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. Players have guessed that the date August 19th may be significant, or that time may be frozen at 08:19.
Silent Hill: Townfall is a survival game developed by Screen Burn Interactive, and published jointly by Konami and Annapurna Interactive. Set in 1996 in the seaside Scottish town of St. Amelia, the game focuses on Simon Ordell, who awakes on the village’s shores with know recollection of how he got there. Simon must battle the sinister forces residing in the town as he uncovers the mystery of why St. Amelia beckoned him to its foggy shores.
