If you haven’t jumped on the VR train yet, now may be the time as the team over at Meta recently announced in a blog post that their mainline VR headset Quest 2 is seeing a price increase of $100 USD.

That includes both models, the 128GB will go up to $399 USD and the 256GB will jump to $499 USD. With this price hike comes no new upgrades or features, however if you purchase a headset within 30 days after the price increase you can get a free copy of Beat Saber. Meta also indicated that there will be more price increase including refurbished headset units, and accessories. The price hike is set to begin sometime in August, with no official date as of this writing.

According to the Meta blog post, “…the costs to make and ship our products have been on the rise. By adjusting the price of Quest 2, we can continue to grow our investment in groundbreaking research and new product development that pushes the VR industry to new heights.” With that statement they’ve indicated that later this year Meta will be launching a higher-end VR headset code-named “Project Cambria” and also a newer generation Quest 2.

Now may be the time to snag a new one if you see one in stores, because $100 USD for some people is quite a jump. As of this writing Best Buy is still selling the 128GB for $299 USD, as is Target and other outlets.

Also for those who ditched their Facebook accounts, the Meta Quest 2 will no longer be requiring a Facebook account to use and play the VR headset starting sometime in August, a move that really didn’t sit well with a few people. They will require players to create a Meta account in order to use the hardware, however.
