Sony has released the first images of its second generation VR headset, named PlayStation VR2. The color scheme is in line with the PS5, a white outer shell that is highlighted with black borders. For the design, an “orb” aesthetic will mirror the PS VR2 sense controller with the Pulse 3D headset. “The circular orb shape represents the 360-degree view that players feel when they enter the virtual reality world, so this shape captures it nicely.” claims PlayStation.Blog.

The announcement appears to be Sony’s ongoing effort to build excitement for the peripheral, which last received spec details in the beginning of January 2022. Back then Sony shared that the device will feature 4K output, haptic feedback in the headset unit, a single wire setup, and more. The single wire setup has been shown off today, and looks to be less intrusive than the original headset that launched on PS4.
Notably missing from the announcement are the price point and release date, which will be crucial with Sony’s second attempt in the VR market. I am anticipating a $399 USD price point and a release in late summer, but honestly that is more of a hope. What price do you feel Sony will launch with?
