Nintendo released today a new story focused trailer for their upcoming strategy RPG Fire Emblem Engage.
In Engage, players will assume the role of the Divine Dragon: a mystical being that is (assumable) limited to their human form until they can retrieve all of their stolen memories. Memories exist in the form of rings, and within each ring is the spirit, or “emblem,” of a character of the franchise’s past that can be summoned to aid in battle.
Past characters such as Marth, Celica, Sigurd, Ike, Lucina, and Corrin have all been confirmed as appearing in the game, providing longtime fans with a heavy dose of nostalgia.
While much of the attention has thus far been turned towards familiar faces, this latest trailer introduces us to many of the new characters that will be joining our party… as well as standing in our way. It appears that not only will the player be allied with members of the Kingdom of Elyos, but from other lands far and wide. Many of these new Kingdoms that we will be exploring and interacting with are on display, such as the knightly Kingdom of Brodia and the tropical Kingdom of Psalm. Each Kingdom has it’s own distinct environment, culture, and party members that will join your cause.
The villainous Kingdom of Illusia also receives some considerable spotlight in the new trailer, with it being revealed that the inhabitants of Illusia worship the dreaded Fell Dragon: the franchise’s recurring baddie that is said to bring the destruction of the world.
The trailer also shows that some high ranking members in the Kingdom of Illusia are able to use the rings to summon their own emblems, and even corrupt your own allies, turning them against you. This leads to some wild possibilities, as you may face off against some the best antagonists in the series, or even the heroes.
Fire Emblem Engage is set to release on January 20, 2023 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
What are your thoughts so far of Fire Emblem Engage? While I have been underwhelmed with some of the previous news of the game, this trailer makes Engage feel like it will be quite the adventure that will satisfy fans new and old.
