Boss Rush Banter: What Do You Want To See In The Next Persona Game?

Persona 5 Royal released on Nintendo Switch back in October, with Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable arriving this last week on the Nintendo eShop. These releases have sparked a sort of revival in the Persona franchise, with many fans playing other entries for the first time. With all of this hullabaloo, it has me wondering what the future holds for Persona. What features would you want to see in the next entry?

First of all, I would love to see everything from Persona 5 built upon, primarily the dungeon design. Persona 5’s dungeons were a huge breath of fresh air compared to the procedurally generated dungeons from Persona 3 and 4. Each introduced new mechanics and twists and turns that made you stop and think rather than just “run around opening doors until something happens.” Show us more exciting dungeons and I’m in.

The different Persona games have varied in tone, with Persona 3 feeling like a Greek tragedy while Persona 4 feels like Scooby-Doo. Persona 5 keeps its light-hearted moments, but uses more adult themes than either of the prior two titles. For a new installment, I’d love to see a step back from a dark and heavy tone to something more easy-going and light-hearted, closer to Persona 4’s vibes.

One possibility is we won’t be getting Persona 6 for a while. The first entry for the series was Revelations: Persona for the PlayStation back in 1996, and Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment coming out in 1999 and 2000 respectively. These games were rereleased on the PlayStation Portable and have appeared on PlayStation Network, but could definitely use remakes on modern consoles. While very different from the more recent entries, Atlus seems more than capable of converting the original games to the modern Persona style we’ve come to love.

Lastly, keep bringing the music. The soundtracks to the Persona game are insanely good. Please give me more.

What do you think the next Persona game should include? Did we miss anything? Let us know your hopes in a comment, or join us over on the Boss Rush Discord!
