Capcom, via their Monster Hunter YouTube page, released a significant amount of footage for 2025’s Monster Hunter Wilds. This footage covers some basic mechanics, the familiar Great Sword, and the new Focus Mode.
The basic mechanics are largely recognizable to series veterans. While a weapon is sheathed, the player has a great deal of freedom of movement and can use items. When a weapon is out, their movement and actions are limited.
The Seikret, the player’s mount, will take players directly to the goal of the hunt, and allows them to use items, sharpen their weapons, and collect items on the go.
Briefly seen in the footage, the minimap is now 3D.
The Great Sword, a reliable and somewhat versatile weapon, makes its return. The moveset and mechanics are essentially unchanged from previous games, allowing a player to charge powerful strikes and block.
Focus Mode is a new mechanic unique to Monster Hunter Wilds. It allows players to see a monster weak point, and strike existing wounds for additional damage – but once a wound is attacked in this way, it is cleared and the opportunity for additional damage closes. This mode also allows the player to strike faster, attacks aimed with the camera, but movement is sharply reduced.
Monster Hunter Wilds will release in 2025.
