Night Signal Entertainment, developer behind Home Safety Hotline, has announced its next game: Please Insert Disc. In this horror puzzle game, you take on the role of a player whose PlayStation 2-inspired console has stopped reading discs, devolving into a haze of things you were not meant to see.

You must navigate “the underbelly of a 2000s era gaming console in an attempt to restore its functionality.” You must deal with the menus and bios-tier systems as you “puzzle your way through the process of increasingly horrific troubleshooting.”

The game features early 2000s-inspired original soundscapes and music.

Picture this – It’s the year 2002, and you just booted up your game console ready to wind down for the day. But something is wrong. The serene blue fog of the console’s startup menu turn a foul red, the resonant music pitches down and an error message appears on screen, as if to shame you for your actions:

Disc Read Error: Please Insert Disc.

Harkening back to the PlayStation 2’s infamous disc-reading issues, the game asks you to consider that this isn’t a faulty piece of hardware, but the work of something much more sinister, something that has sought to hide itself from players.
