Silent Hill Showcase Being Shared by Former Team Silent Members, Suggesting Involvement

On Sunday, game publisher Konami shared that a new showcase will be airing on Wednesday, October 19 focusing on the popular survival horror franchise Silent Hill. Now, two former members of the original development team are sharing the news on social media, hinting at their involvement with the project.

Former series composer and producer Akira Yamaoka and creature designer Masahiro Ito both shared Konami’s announcement on their Instagram and Twitter accounts respectively. Yamaoka last worked on the 2009 title Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (although he did assist on a single song for 2012’s Book of Memories and provide music for Dead by Daylight‘s 2020 Silent Hill DLC); Ito is noteworthy for having crafted some of the franchise’s most notable monsters, and served as the art director for the 2nd and 3rd titles.

Both artists have also teased their involvement with an upcoming project in recent years. For instance, Ito posted on Twitter in 2020 that he was “working on a title as a core member” and that he “hope[d] the title won’t be cancelled,” though he stopped short of confirming any further details.

Yamaoka similarly revealed that he was working on a secretive video game title. During an interview with YouTube channel AI Hub, the longtime composer said that his next game is “the one you’ve been hoping to hear about.” Shortly after the interview went live in February of 2021, it was pulled from AI Hub’s channel for unknown reasons, but not before it was transcribed and reported upon by numerous publications, including Siliconera, Video Game Chronicle, and PSU.

It remains to be seen if either Yamaoka or Ito are actually involved in the making the new title, or are sharing it due to prior association, however their contributions would be most welcomed by fans of the franchise as it is their work that helped make the series that horror icon it is today.

Fortunately, we do not have to wait long to see what is next for the Japanese horror series, as the showcase airing this Wednesday, October 19, at 5pm EST will most assuredly provide the answers.

What are your thoughts on this? Are Akira Yamaoaka and Masahiro Ito actually involved in the upcoming Silent Hill game? What do you hope to see during Wednesday’s showcase? Let us know in the comments below, as well as on our social media pages!
