Focus Entertainment released a new trailer for the upcoming first-person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun.
With a raucous narrator straight from a wrestling show and blaring rock soundtrack, developers Auroch Digital, take us back into the days of what Warhammer’s science-fiction setting used to be like.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is portrayed as a “lost” game from the early ’90s. The trailer hearkens back to that era of 40K: boisterous, satirical, and a living metal album cover. At the time, 40K was a spinoff. Where Warhammer Fantasy was ultimately serious (if fun-loving), 40K was the absurd parody lovingly mocking its parent game and not-so-lovingly parodying the trends of the day.
The trailer’s text also explores the game’s plot:
Get ready for Boltgun, a gory, rapid-fire boomer shooter blast from the past that is as nostalgic as its gameplay is fluid and modern. You will take control of a mighty Sternguard Veteran along with his faithful servo-skull and plunge headlong into the grim dark universe of Warhammer 40,000. Summoned by the Inquisition, ready your righteous arsenal, your indomitable armor and your battle-honed instincts to Scour Graia, a Forge World on the brink, overrun by Cultists, Traitors and Daemons. Blast cultists apart with your mighty Boltgun! Smash traitors with your Charge! Shred the spawn of the Archenemy with your Chainsword! Maim and obliterate hordes of foes with your array of iconic weapons!
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun will be available May 23 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It is available to pre-order on Steam.
