Our hands can get quite dirty and no matter how you spin it, our Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are already delicate as it is. They can easily get grimy and sticky, especially when used by kids; however, they are also very expensive, so it’s important to know how to properly care for them.
Do’s
- Remove your Joy-Cons from your Nintendo Switch (if you are cleaning your Switch as well, you must also make sure the console is off and nothing is plugged in).
- Once everything is off, get a clean cloth and wring out any excess water and gently wipe the Joy-Cons down.
- If you’re looking to disinfect as well, Nintendo recommends using a consumer-grade disinfectant containing about 70% alcohol.
- Always wipe the Joy-Cons gently.
- Wait until Joy-Cons are completely dry before using.
Dont’s
- Never submerge or pour any liquid onto the Joy-Con (or console, for that matter)

Sticky Buttons?
- Note: This method is not officially endorsed by Nintendo, although this method has been used by many people effectively including myself. Use at your discretion:
- Soak Q-tips into 70% rubbing alcohol, dab off any excess, then run it around the affected button(s).
- Next, press the button repeatedly (about 50 times)
- Finally, use a clean, dry end of the Q-tip to run around that same button(s) to pick up any sticky residue that came up from the alcohol and button pressing.

- This method seems to work on any buttons on the Joy-Con except the trigger buttons.
- Again, ensure the Joy Cons are completely dry before using.
