Dennel Cake, a studio local to Massachusetts, is stationed at PAX East 2024 with their own beat ’em up for players to demo: Obsolete Souls™ Episode 0: Operation Haiti.
Before playing the demo, I briefly spoke with level designer, Tori. Obsolete Souls™ Episode 0: Operation Haiti is heavily inspired by the TMNT and Streets of Rage games. The unique tweaks they made for their title include the fact you can cancel out your attacks, which pushes the player to think and not mash buttons. The game also takes place in Haiti. The dev team wants to provide representation of the setting and culture. Tori even used real photos from Haiti to ensure the levels are kept in theme.
Currently, the multiplayer accommodates up to two players; however, their goal is four-player. They also shared a goal of sharing future profits for Haiti. So, if you’re interested, please follow Dennel Cake and consider funding them on Kickstarter.

Be sure to wish list it on Steam and swing by their booth if you’re at PAX East 2024 (Booth 16110).
