Sucker Punch Productions recently released some new gameplay footage of Ghost of Yōtei. The new footage showcased some of the incredible immersive exploration and activities. Ghost of Yōtei also revealed that our new protagonist, Atsu, will be capable of wielding a wider variety of weapons than the previous game’s protagonist. The new weapons have worked up some excitement for new and returning fans.
My experience with Ghost of Tsushima is something I still think about. Part of that is because of how much I enjoyed the immersion in the game. The lack of typical video game trappings like locking on forced me to be actively aware of my camera positioning during encounters. Riding from location to location with the literal wind as my guide was always novel, but the novelty never faded. Finding a new location and seeing what missions and upgrades I could snag was exciting, and the side stories were interesting to see through.
All of that experience left me very hopeful for a sequel of some sort. Thankfully, we were granted the incredibly fun Legends mode which gave us various formats for multiplayer. Not long after that, we were granted the Iki Island DLC, which had stunningly gorgeous locales and more game-play that was reasonably challenging with a very satisfying ending boss fight. I’ll likely remember the first time I made it to the wisteria forest on Iki island for the rest of my life. These two additions were tons of fun and once again left fans hungry for more.
Ghost of Yōtei seems to be gearing up to deliver on everyone’s high expectations. The additional weapons all look fun, offering various methods of combat to break up the single weapon gameplay from Ghost of Tsushima. While Ghost of Yōtei has multiple weapons, I wonder if it may include something like the stances or styles of swordplay from its predecessor. The current lineup of weapons seems excellent. I’m particularly excited for the quick and daring dual swords and the massive and punishing ōdachi.
Overall, Ghost of Yōtei is one of my most anticipated games of the year. I’m looking forward to using the ōdachi for every occasion I possibly can.
