Nintendo has shared new details on its upcoming Legend of Zelda spin-off during Thursday’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, including a release window and some story details.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch 2 this winter, and will let players see the events that lead up to 2023’s smash hit The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
First announced during April’s Switch 2 focused Nintendo Direct, Age of Imprisonment is the third title in the Hyrule Warriors spin-off series (not including ports and remasters), which began in 2014 on the Wii U. The games are made in partnership between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo, and are developed by Omega Force, best known for their Dynasty Warriors video games.
Fans have been concerned regarding the official nature of Age of Imprisonment ever since it was announced, as the plot of the previous entry, Age of Calamity, has spurred much debate since it arrived in 2020. Alas, Nintendo has quelled such concerns with this trailer, as they have made it official that this game is indeed canon.
The new trailer also features some mysterious teases, such as the construction of some robots that could be new playable characters. While autonomous “constructs” are nothing new to the world of Zelda, these don’t appear to be like the ones encountered in Tears of the Kingdom. It’s quite possible that these will be new characters that we will get to control (a robotic Link perhaps?), or even give us the ability to create our own fighter from scratch.
Although we do not know exactly when Hyrule Warriors – Age of Imprisonment will be hitting store shelves, gamers can take solace in knowing that they won’t have to wait long to get their Zelda fix.
Are you looking forward to added Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment to your Switch 2 library later this year? Tell us your thoughts on the latest trailer in the comments below!
