During Thursday’s Nintendo Switch Partner Showcase, developer Wright Flyer Studios revealed that their turn-based RPG Another Eden Begins will be arriving on Switch 2 in Summer 2026.
The game appears to be a console reimagining of the 2017 mobile game Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space, which is currently still available for Android, iOS, and Windows PC.
Another Eden is noteworthy for being a spiritual successor to the beloved classic SNES RPG Chrono Trigger. Masato Kato, lead scenario writer and one of several directors for Chrono Trigger (as well as contributing to the games Final Fantasy VII, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy XI, Baten Kaitos, and Dawn of Mana), returns as director and lead writer for Another Eden. Additionally, Another Eden’s world is brought to life by none other than Chrono Trigger’s renowned composer Yasunori Mitsuda.
Although not shown during the Direct, the developer has posted a full trailer and synopsis on their official YouTube account. The trailer and description is presented below:
“Masato Kato, the creator of numerous RPG classics, presents an epic adventure spanning the past, present, and future! The main story is a richly woven tale with full voice acting, accompanied by a main theme song composed by Yasunori Mitsuda and music incorporating traditional folk instruments and an orchestra by Procyon Studios! Strategic command battles rely on building parties around characters’ roles and synergies to unleash additional skills! Use the power of Another Force to execute devastating attacks and edge closer to victory! After completing the main story, another adventure awaits with New Game+! All of the characters retain their strength for this new journey as actions and choices determine which of over 10 endings will unfold!”
The game’s story follows a young boy named Aldo and his sister Feinne, who live a peaceful life in the village Baruoki. One day however, the ferocious Beast King terrorizes the settlement, and captures Feinne. Aldo pursues them, unknowingly traveling through a portal that sends him 800 years into the future. In order to bring down the Beast King, Aldo must assemble a team of over 18 warriors from across space and time, even if that means losing everything else in the process.
While the original Another Eden was on mobile devices, the game did not rely on any social interactions or log-in activities that are prevalent in those titles. Still, the limitations that mobile devices present–smaller screens, longer load times, shorter batteries, lack of buttons, etc–likely turned many would be fans off from the game. This console release may prove to be a much better fit for the title, and help it find the right audience.
