How To Obtain Luna’s Howl and Blast Furnace in Destiny 2

Fresh from the BRAVE Arsenal, the last pair of classic weapons from Destiny 2‘s past have been added to the game.

These are Luna’s Howl, a Crucible mainstay of a hand cannon, and Blast Furnace, fan-favorite heavy-duty pulse rifle. Like all the weapons from Destiny 2‘s Into the Light free content update, these oldies-but-goodies have received a fresh coat of paint, including a higher base power, new weapon perks, and curated rolls that, naturally, come with their own nifty black-and-gold ornaments.

Now, these two weapons have already been added to Into the Light‘s loot pool– that is, they can drop randomly from BRAVE Engrams, be looted from Onslaught chests, or be bought with Trophies of Bravery from Shaxx’s cache. You could just as easily land a nice roll from any of those sources.

But it’s the curated rolls that are only sticking around for a while. They’re tied into quests from Into the Light that, while accessible to everyone, will only be available for a limited time. Completing those is going to be your top priority in these last few months leading up to The Final Shape.

Howl at the Moon (Luna’s Howl Quest)

Earning Luna’s Howl is a matter of gunslinging. It’s not nearly as demanding as the quest for the original version of the weapon, but you will need to dust off your hand cannon holster.

  1. Visit Arcite 99-40 in the Hall of Champions to pick up the quest. The Hall of Champions is the node to the immediate right of the Tower, so it’s hard to miss.
  2. Now you need to either defeat combatants with precision damage from hand cannons, or defeat Guardians using hand cannons. If you chase the former objective, you’ll get some bonus progress in landing those head shots in Onslaught. If you aim for the latter, it’s the last week of the Iron Banner, so make the most of it now!
  3. Return to Lord Shaxx in the Hall of Champions once you’ve finished one of these two objectives, and he’ll have your curated Luna’s Howl waiting.

Blast from the Past (Blast Furnace Quest)

Blast Furnace might be a little more straightforward, depending on your taste in weaponry. If you’ve already got Elsie’s Rifle from the BRAVE Arsenal, you might already be well-equipped for it.

  1. Visit Arcite 99-40 in the Hall of Champions to pick up the quest.
  2. You need to either rapidly defeat combatants with pulse rifles, or defeat Guardians using pulse rifles. Again, you can pick up some extra points doing the former during Onslaught missions. Enemy density is pretty high in Onslaught, so it’s an easy call.
  3. Return to Lord Shaxx in the Hall of Champions when you’ve finished one of the two objectives. The new Blast Furnace doesn’t quite have the same shimmer as the original, but the shiny new ornament really does look lovely.

With objectives you don’t need to grind out and rewards that feel as fresh and as powerful as in their heyday, picking up Luna’s Howl and Blast Furnace is a must for anyone looking to step back into Destiny 2 in the lead-up to The Final Shape. Into the Light is a great point to jump on the wagon, and these classic weapons make for quite the entry point.
