Fans and industry regulars have generated a lot of hype around the upcoming Super Mario Movie (2022); and now it appears Nintendo is sharing in that confidence. On the final page of Nintendo’s recent earnings report, Chris Meledandri, the CEO of Illumination Entertainment is listed as Outside Director of Nintendo. The change will become effective upon approval at the 81st Annual General Meeting of Shareholders to be held on June 29.

Illumination of course is best known for its films such as Despicable Me, Lorax, Minions, and The Secret Life of Pets. It’s safe to say that the confidence level of this upcoming Super Mario movie has definitely increased as Nintendo has nominated him to for Outside Director of the company. Perhaps we may even see the Minions become characters in Super Smash Bros.? Ah, one can only dream.
