The Game Awards will stream Thursday, December 8th at 5pm PST/8pm EST, and perhaps the most anticipated category is also one of the most controversial–Game of the Year.
2021’s nominees for Game of the Year are Death Loop, It Takes Two, Psychonauts 2, Resident Evil: Village, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Metroid Dread. It’s a pretty solid showing of titles of various genres; however, some are wondering where Forza Horizon 5 was.
Forza Horizon 5 did receive a nomination in the Best Sports/Racing category. With stunning graphics, attention to detail, buttery-smooth handling, and various game-play options, there are fans who felt Forza Horizon 5 was snubbed from the Game of the Year, only to pigeon-hole it into the racing category. Metacritic rated this game a 92% and IGN scored it 10/10. Let’s put that into perspective: Resident Evil: Village received 84% from Metacritic and 8/10 from IGN. Granted, these ratings are subjective, but it does make you wonder if Forza was left out just because of its perceived “niche” genre.
