Tell us where you’ve heard this before. There is a new version of the old rumor that Apple is looking to enter the video game console market. This rumor has been around for sometime now, but it seems that this version has some traction.

On a recent episode of The Xbox Two Podcast, reporter Jez Corden of Windows Central suggested that Apple may be poaching engineers from Microsoft so that they could design their own console.

“I’ve been hearing for a while that Apple has been poaching Xbox engineers to make its own console. I’ve heard that for ages, that Apple was exploring making a video game console. And I don’t know if it’s going to be a VR play, or a metaverse thing, or something like that…”

“I don’t know if that’ll come to fruition, I don’t know if they’ve cancelled it already, because Apple explore a ton of stuff… I don’t have amazing sourcing on this, I have no documents, I have no photographs, but it’s just something I heard.”

Though we’ve been hearing this take for a decade, Apple could finally be serious about competing. They already have Apple Arcade which by all accounts seems to be doing well for them and if anyone could enter the market and blow money on research and development, its them. The only part they would have to worry about is what would their first party games look like and if they have any prospects for development or acquisitions.

Jez Cordon admitted that his sources are mediocre at best and there is no concrete evidence, but it is something to think about as tech companies become more prominent in the industry.
