A recent report from Windows Central‘s Jez Corden reveals that Xbox and Activision are allegedly forming a new team to develop smaller AA experiences based on existing IP within Blizzard. Corden states that Microsoft is eager to leverage the extensive back catalog it acquired alongside Activision Blizzard, signaling a potential shift towards smaller-scale projects. These smaller projects would be ideal for Game Pass or their eagerness to be more disruptive in the mobile space.

One of the most intriguing aspects however is the involvement of developers from King, the mobile developer best known for Candy Crush. This has led to speculation that mobile platforms might be a primary focus for these smaller AA titles. However, it remains unconfirmed whether these games will be restricted to mobile, as Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella has emphasized a unified approach for console, PC, and mobile gaming.
As of now, No official statements from Xbox or its teams regarding this development at Blizzard.
What are your thoughts on Xbox and Activision Blizzard potentially exploring smaller AA titles? In an industry dominated by bloated budgets, layoffs, and an massive roster of AAA games, this may be the first step in addressing these issues.
