Civilization 7 Reveal May be Imminent

The official social media accounts for Sid Meier’s Civilization changed their profile pictures and headers on Wednesday, which may be indication that the latest entry in the storied franchise is soon to be revealed.

The new images include a side profile of the Cleopatra, the renown queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. While most know her as simply Cleopatra, her actual name is Cleopatra VII Philopator. For a game series that is heavy handed in history, it isn’t much of a stretch that the use of Cleopatra here could be signaling Civilization VII.

The first entry in the turn-based strategy game released in 1991, and was designed by famed game developer Sid Meier, who is also known for his Pirates! and Railroad Tycoon games, along with many others.

The last game in the franchise, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, released in 2016 and is currently available just about everywhere, launching on Windows PC before quickly being ported to macOS, Linux, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and Android mobile devices.

The sixth title introduced many new elements to the long running series, including districts that build upon developed cities, boosts that can help players learn technologies quicker, amenities to grow a population’s happiness, a restructured religious system, and more.

It is unknown exactly when the next Civilization will be available for play, but if these latest moves are any indication, we may be seeing our first real glimpse sooner rather than later.
