Earlier this week, Sony hosted another of this year’s State of Play showcases, where plenty of new and previously known titles were on full display for fans around the world. If you missed it, that’s ok! There was a lot going on, especially with Nintendo having their own Direct earlier in the day (which you can read our full recap HERE). So, without further ado, let’s get to the games!
Tekken 8
Opening the State of Play, we got our first look at Tekken 8! Starting this showcase off with a bang, this anticipated sequel to the classic fighting franchise sees Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima duking it out on a stormy field. This title will launch sometime next year for PlayStation 5 and Steam.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy Edge
Star Wars: Tales from The Galaxy Edge Enhanced Edition is the first of two titles coming to the PlayStation VR2. Originally released for the Oculus Quest, gamers relive stories told by alien bartender Seezelslak, whose tales span through different eras of the Star Wars timeline. Look for it when it launches sometime next year.

Demeo
The second PlayStation VR 2 game is Demeo, a dungeon crawling RPG experience where players will feel just like they are at the table with friends conducting a campaign, as characters are presented as miniature figures, and gamers will need to roll the virtual dice using the unique PS VR2 controls. Get ready to go exploring when it releases next year for VR2 and PlayStation 5.

Hogwarts Legacy
Next is further information on one of next year’s most anticipated games, Hogwarts Legacy. We witness a new mysterious trailer revealing a quest called The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop which is not only a bonus quest for the game but also a PlayStation exclusive bonus quest with an additional dungeon and the “Shopkeeper’s Cosmetic Set”. Players who preordered the game for PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 will also receive the “Felix Felicis Potion Recipe”. All of this will hit store shelves on February 10, 2023.

Pacific Drive
A reveal trailer for the survival-based title Pacific Drive showcases a protagonist driving in a hellish, post-apocalyptic scene. The first game coming from Ironwood Studios, you too can brave this haunting landscape when it launches next year on PC and PlayStation 5.

PlayStation Stars
We then take a break from game announcements with a further look at Sony’s loyalty program. Called “PlayStation Stars,” this free new program celebrates gamers achievements by rewarding points for accomplishing in game feats, which can then be used to purchase digital collectibles such as figurines from some of the beloved franchises and such. The program will launch in Asia and Japan at the end of September, while Europe and America will receive it in the weeks to come.

Syn Duality
Continuing on with the game announcements, we next embark on a new sci fi, dystopian third-person shooter titled Syn Duality where you must fight to bring hope for the coexistence of humanity and AI in a bleak future. We shall gear up and take on the fight on PlayStation 5 sometime next year.

Stellar Blade
Stellar Blade is the first of several PlayStation console exclusives presented in the show. Stellar Blade is a hack ‘n’ slash anime inspired adventure featuring Eve, a female warrior who uses her mystical blade to take down massive giants in a dystopian wasteland. Originally named Project Eve when it was first announced in 2019, the game looks to be shaping up to be one of next year’s blasts.

Rise of the Ronin
The second PlayStation exclusive comes from Team Ninja, creators of Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, and Nioh. Titled Rise of the Ronin, the game is an ambitious new action RPG where we take on the role of a ninja master on an epic quest of survival and revenge in feudal Edo, Japan. Our hero has plenty of tools at his disposal, including his katana, a powerful gun, and even a glider in which to take to the skies. This new adventure will unfold in 2024.

God of War: Ragnarök
In the finale set of announcements, we get our first look at the limited-edition God of War: Ragnarök blue and white Dual Sense controller–because whenever there is a hot new title in the works, we can’t forget about those exclusive controllers. This, alongside with the game itself featuring more gameplay where we see him duking it out with Thor which looks truly supreme! Both the limited-edition controller and the game launches on November 9th.

That concludes the September State of Play with some updates on the most anticipated games of the year, and some hot new projects for the future. What games got you the most hyped?
