Recap: Nintendo Direct for September 13, 2022

Nintendo revealed 49 games in its latest Nintendo Direct presentation. A lot of exciting titles were on display in the 45 minute showcase, including some first party favorites, inventive indies, and great additions from third party developers. Let’s recap what games are heading to the Nintendo Switch, beginning with some indie titles!

Tunic

If you’ve been looking for more adventure action games, Tunic is the game for you. You control a fox who must explore a land with lost legends, ancient powers, and tough monsters that you’ll fight. Check out the trailer to see more of the game in action. Tunic releases September 27.

Fae Farm

In Fae Farm, you build, farm, and discover the magical land of Azuria. You and the people that you meet and aid will go on various missions to help build the civilization you want to create. Catch the trailer below for more. Fae Farm is planned for a Spring 2023 release.

Sifu

Beat up foes and other masters to avenge the death of your sensei. You’ll fight a variety of enemies, and challenge some truly difficult bosses. Lose, and you’ll come back older but stronger. Sifu will release in November.

Oddballers

Oddballers is a hilarious take on dodgeball, which will give you laughs with different rules for each character and arena. The multiplayer arena game plans to release in 2023.

Ib

You play as Ib, who visits an art gallery with her parents. While exploring the museum, you come across a particular painting, which magically teleports you into a terrifying version of the real world. You must explore this haunting locale, and make difficult choices that will affect you in the long run. Will you be able to return home? Ib is planned for a Spring release in 2023.

Factorio

Build and maintain various factories and settlements against destructive aliens trying to invade. Check out the trailer for a much more thorough look. Factorio will release on October 28th.

Now. Let’s dive into some third party partners.

It Takes Two

The winner of Game of the Year at the 2021 Game Awards is finally releasing on Nintendo Switch. You’ll be able to play co-op locally or online. You’ll also be able to play with a friend on two Switches. It Takes Two lands on Switch November 4th.

Fatal Frame: Mask of The Lunar Eclipse

Exclusive to the Wii in Japan, Nintendo is getting this remastered edition of the game. In this survival horror title, you visit a mysterious hospital to regain your lost memories. You’ll use your camera to fight ghosts and help undo a curse that has been placed on the building. Fatal Frame: Mask Of The Lunar Eclipse will release in 2023.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake

You’ll take SpongeBob and his friend Patrick on a wishful adventure through 7 lands in this 3D platformer. Take a look at the trailer below for a better glimpse at the journey to be had!

Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star

Get stronger while box training with characters from the iconic manga series Fist Of The North Star. Fitness Boxing: Fist Of The North Star will release March 20th, 2023.

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life

The well known farm series is back. Players will return to Forgotten Valley in this follow-up to the 2003 classic title Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. Watch the trailer to see all the new additions to this storied franchise. Story Of Seasons : A Wonderful Life is expect in 2023.

Mario+Rabbids: Sparks Of Hope

A new trailer for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope has been revealed, giving fans a closer look at the strategy RPG than ever before. Join Mario and friends when the game releases October 20th, 2022.

Rune Factory 3 Special

A remake of Rune Factory 3 is coming to Switch in 2023. Along with the announcement, the Rune Factory series will receive a new game that is in development now.

Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key

The final summer begins in Atelier Ryza 3. When strange new islands appear, you and your friends must protect your home land in this charming JRPG. Watch the trailer below for more information!

Just Dance 2023

With new songs, accessibility options, and plenty more, Just Dance 2023 seems to be as much a service as being a game. Groove to the trailer below, and join in the action when it launches November 22nd, 2022.

Master Ace Detective Rain Code

From the developers of Dangarampa comes a chilling new detective game. You’ll collect evidence and work to unravel the culprit in numerous “unsolvable” crimes, while doing battle with perpetrators and spirits in an effort to uncover the truth. Check out this spectacular trailer; Master Ace Detective: Rain Code is planned for a Spring 2023 release.

Resident Evil Cloud

Resident Evil Village and its winter DLC, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard are all coming to the Switch in Cloud form. Get a peek at the action and terror these games deliver in the trailer below!

Radiant Silvergun

Treasure is back with shoot ’em up mayhem with the release of Radiant Silvergun. Originally released on the Sega Saturn, this was the precursor title for Ikaruga. Gamers can download the game now.

Tales of Symphonia Remastered

The GameCube JRPG fan favorite finally returns to a Nintendo platform. Play as Lloyd as you and your party try to restore mana to the world, while also stopping another world from collapsing into yours. Tales of Symphonia Remastered is planned for a 2023 release.

Endless Dungeon

In this rogue lite dungeon crawler, you’ll unlock new weapons, characters, abilities, and more. Watch the trailer below for all the details!

A montage reminded fans of games that have been previously announced for the platform: Life Is Strange: Arcadia Bay Collection releases September 27th; Romancing Saga Minstrel Song Remaster on December 1st; Lego Bricktales comes this fall; Disney Speedstorm races into homes sometime this year; and Fall Guys Season 2 officially kicks off on September 15th.

Square Enix showcased a ton of games that will release on the platform:

Front Mission Remakes

Square Enix and Forever Entertainment are bringing Front Mission: 1st Mission to Switch this November. In addition, Front Mission 2 will launch for the first time outside of Japan sometime next year. Lastly, the publisher confirmed that a remake of Front Mission 3 is also in the works.

Octopath Traveler II

Previously announced, Square Enix revealed the new characters as well as some of the plot for their upcoming turn-based JRPG. Peep the trailer for more details, and for those beautiful 2D/3D graphics!

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line

Get ready to play over 300 songs from the Final Fantasy series in the latest entry in this beloved rhythm series. You’ll also be able to add more music from other Square Enix titles like Live A Live and Nier: Automata in future DLC. Check out the trailer for a tease at what’s to come!

Various Daylife

A new IP from Square Enix, you’ll build and fight in this life sim game that releases today.

Harvestella

Square showed off more of the game in this trailer while announcing a demo people can try out now for this new IP. Harvestella arrives November 4th.

Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion

This remake of a PSP exclusive action RPG was previously announced in a Final Fantasy showcase earlier in the year, and in today’s direct we have a confirmed release date! December 13th cannot come any faster.

For the final part of this direct, let’s look at what Nintendo is bring to the Switch and NSO.

Fire Emblem Engage

This main line game in the series, being developed by Intelligent System, reintroduces its old style of game play with the new ability to merge characters together–or as they say in the trailer, “Engage.” Take a look to see this game in action. It’s planned for January 20th, 2023.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Wave 2

This DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 brings in a new robotic character named Ino. Part of the Hero class, Ino can expand your classes and abilities. Complete her quest, and she’ll join your party. There’s also challenge battles for better rewards. Check out the trailer to see her in action!

Splatoon 3

Nintendo has announced the first post-launch Splatfest, coming later this month. The Theme: What would you bring to a deserted island? Gear, Grub, or Fun? The event runs through September 23 to Sept 25th. 

9 N64 Titles Coming to Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo is expanding their N64 library for its expansion pass. For the next three months, we will be able to play Pilotwings, Mario Party, and Mario Party 2. For 2023, they’ll add Mario Party 3, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Stadium 2, 1080° Snowboarding, Excitebike 64, and a major reveal with 007 Goldeneye, all complete with online functionality.

Mario Strikers Battle League

Mario Strikers Battle League will receive an update that will bring 2 new characters: Pauline is sliding onto the field along with Diddy Kong who is ready to somersault against his opponents!

Mario Kart 8 Wave 3 

More tracks are coming this holiday with Wave 3 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass. The courses include the Christmas themed “Merry Mountain” from Mario Kart Tour, and the beautiful “Peach Garden” from Mario Kart DS.

Nintendo Switch Sports

Golf is finally coming to Switch Sports this holiday. Along with it, there will be a new mode where players can be eliminated by missing the hole. Check out the trailer for more!

Pikmin 4

While we got no game play, Shigeru Miyamoto announced Pikmin 4 and showed some stills from the game. With a 2023 release planned, we’ll see more of the game and hear about its story in the months to come!

Bayonetta 3

A new trailer was shown that announced that an official gameplay demo was happening after the direct. Bayonetta 3 will release on October 28th.

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe

The remake of this Wii title was announced to celebrate Kirby’s 30th Anniversary. One new feature is that you and up to three friends can play as four unique Kirby characters with the ability to absorb enemy powers. Check out the trailer to get a better look at what’s to come!

The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Nintendo ended the direct with the reveal title for the next Zelda game. Showing off more of the world while still leaving viewers mystified about what the game is about, Tears Of The Kingdom shows a vast amount of improvements in graphical detail. With a planned release for May 12th, 2023, we can expect an in-depth Direct dedicated to the title next year. Check out the latest trailer to see what’s coming to Tears of The Kingdom.
