Universal Pictures has announced the release date of the film adaptation of the popular horror video game series Five Nights at Freddy’s for October 27, 2023.
The movie, produced by Blumhouse, will be simultaneously released in theaters and on the studio’s streaming service, Peacock. The announcement was made by producer Jason Blum on Twitter, although there was no mention of the Peacock debut.
The movie will follow a security guard who must watch a restaurant featuring animatronic animals, similar to the original game’s premise. The franchise’s creator, Scott Cawthon, is co-writing the movie adaptation, along with Seth Cuddeback and the film’s director, Emma Tammi. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will create the animatronic characters.
The official release confirmed the cast, including Josh Hutcherson (Ultraman, The Hunger Games franchise), Elizabeth Lail (You, Mack & Rita), Piper Rubio (Holly & Ivy, Unstable), Kat Conner Sterling (We Have A Ghost, 9-1-1), with Mary Stuart Masterson (Blindspot, Fried Green Tomatoes) and Matthew Lillard (Good Girls, Scream)
Fans of the popular video game series can look forward to being terrified in theaters and on Peacock when Five Nights at Freddy’s is released later this year.
