ICYMI: Twisted Metal TV Series with Anthony Mackie is Coming to Peacock

NBC’s streaming service Peacock has ordered the first season of PlayStation Productions’ Twisted Metal adaptation. Anthony Mackie will star in and executive produce the Twisted Metal series, which is based on the vehicular mayhem video game franchise of the same name. The show was first reported as being in development back in February 2021.

From Variety: “The half-hour action-comedy will see Mackie play John Doe, a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, John gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.”

Twisted Metal has been a global phenomenon for more than 25 years, but it was the creative vision for this live-action adaptation, led by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick, that blew us away,” NBC Universal Television and Streaming’s Lisa Katz said. “Also Anthony Mackie starring made it undeniable! This adrenaline-infused comedy series is in expert hands with our partners at Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television, and will be the perfect addition to Peacock as we continue to look for uniquely entertaining programs.”

The season order has the show being delivered in 30-minute episodes featuring the star of Falcon and The Winter Soldier and will also star Will Arnett.

Twisted Metal debuted in 1995 on Sony’s PlayStation Video Game Console. For more than a quarter-century, the franchise has spawned numerous titles with some of the most memorable characters and cars like Sweet Tooth’s ice cream truck and is considered one of the classics of gaming.

No word has been given for when the Twisted Metal show will make its debut and there’s been no further word on casting for the show at this time. When new information does come out we will be sure to keep you posted!
