Boss Rush Banter: What Video Game Fact(s) Made You Realize How Old You Really Are?

I stumbled upon a meme the other day that immediately aged me.

My name is Stephanie, and I am a millennial (although I relate more to Gen X to be honest). You know, the generation that used to be considered the “new” generation and one that constantly butted heads with Baby Boomers. Well, I keep forgetting that we are getting older too. I say “back in my day” frequently, my bedtime is as early as 9 PM, and I make noises when I get off the couch. While the world constantly reminds us how old we are getting, I often feel youthful when gaming…and yet, even things in the video game world now make me feel crusty.

Back to this meme I spoke of. Well, it’s of someone who considers Pikmin a newer Nintendo franchise when in reality… the first Pikmin game released in 2001… over twenty years ago. So, what video game facts make you realize your own mortality?

Another crazy concept that ages me is hearing a sweeping number of people whose first Zelda game is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Wait, what? My son also considers any 2D Zelda and “old” Zelda game.

Want another? I spoke with my neighbor who wanted to borrow my Wii remotes. He stated that his son has gotten into RETRO GAMING. Oh, snap. The Wii released in November 2006–almost 17 years ago. If his son is in high school, that would mean he was likely born around that time.

Here are some other things that will age you:

  • The very first Xbox console is about 22 years old.
  • The first Mass Effect released ~ 16 years ago
  • The first Pokemon games released ~ 27 years ago

This topic, although funny, is quite relevant. According to DataProt, the average gamer is 35 and added this hair-raising commentary:

The average age of gamers has been shifting upward in recent years as more people who grew up playing video games became game-loving adults. All the Nintendo and Sega kids are now in their 30s and 40s…

https://www.retrogames.cz/play_494-Atari2600.php you know that you are very old, when you played this in your 20s. OMG those were times and a longtime ago. Gaming brought me into an IT Carrier and this month I’ve stopped this carrier 🌹❤

The gaming fact that really throws me for a loop is the fact that the Kingdom Hearts series is over twenty years old. Like, what?! It’s crazy!
