In celebration of their 40th anniversary, Games Workshop will be publishing a reprint of 1987’s Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. This reprint will be available until November 6, at 8 A.M. GMT.
Primarily written by Rick Priestley, this book created Warhammer: 40,000. Primarily a sci-fi parody of Warhammer’s original, renaissance fantasy wargame, the factions are fun-house mirror versions, distorted in ways equally horrifying and satirical.
Unlike both Warhammer and later versions of Warhammer: 40,000, this isn’t a wargame. Or, at least, not entirely. Played with a game master in charge of proceedings, players jump back and forth between roleplaying game and wargame as their characters carve through the distant future.
In the grim darkness of the far future, only the superior psychic mind of the Emperor shields Humanity from destruction. Dedicated to his service are the warriors, agents, and myriad servants of the Imperium. Foremost amongst them stand the Space Marines, humans strengthened by advanced bio-processing techniques to create the ultimate warriors.
