The release of Natlan in Genshin Impact is drawing near, qirh the Version 5.0 livestream going live in just a few days. As far as players know, it is a nation of war and dragons. The teasers have released quite a bit about what areas could look like and what new characters players will be seeing in the story. Players are also aware of Capitano being the harbinger they will face in Natlan. 

Now, there is a lot of speculation about where the Archon story will go with this nation. Genshin Impact’s story line has progressively gotten better. Many players have higher expectations with the story after the Sumeru and Fontaine Archon quests. 

One speculation is about Capitano in the story. He’s been known as the harbinger who is righteous or honorable. Although he is ranked as the strongest harbinger, he’s not known as someone cruel. Hoyoverse seems to favor villain redemptions, turning antagonistic characters into allies through different means. Capitano is already set out to be unlike the other harbingers. It’s very possible that, similar to other chapters, he won’t be an enemy for players. Perhaps, similar to Arlecchino, Capitano will aid the players in their quest because he seeks the gnosis.

Another interesting event that could happen with Capitano is finding out more about Varka. He was the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius who mysteriously went out on an expedition with most of their forces. The objective of the expedition is unclear but it’s been revealed that Varka met Capitano, confirming his presence in Natlan. 

Now whether that means Varka is going to be in Natlan or simply passing by in his expedition is unclear. Hopefully Capitano will reveal more bits about this mysterious Grand Master of Mondstadt. 

Natlan itself is based on several different cultures. The consensus is that it predominantly takes inspiration from Latin America and Africa. Both regions are areas with dense rain forests and a vast amount of animals. However, Sumeru also showcased this sort of topography. Furthermore, the teasers have not heavily shown this sort of greenery unlike Sumeru. Instead, it has more of a savannah kind of feel as well as the canyon structures that were revealed in the teaser.

Players also know it is a region with volcanoes as showcased in the teaser with the creature swimming through lava. I feel that Natlan is going to be a tiered sort of nation. Genshin Impact as a game is explorative and becoming much better at creating vertical exploration. The canyon structure has plenty of opportunities for caves and routes underground. Perhaps the volcano itself will be a giant cave structure for players to explore. The update of the map to show different levels of depth is the perfect set up for such an experience. 

I’m curious as to the kind of characters that will be released with Natlan. Pyro is one of the elements that has the most number of characters who wield it (alongside Cryo). With the release of Emilie who utilizes Burning, I wonder if there is going to be a boost for the Burning reaction in Natlan. It’s been a counter-intuitive kind of reaction with its self-inflicting harm and slower, more difficult output for Burgeon versus the Hyper Blooms with Electro. However, Natlan could turn this around with some new character mechanics and game play.
