Developer Jeistar’s Liminal Void is a horror dungeon crawler. Inspired by Rogue, players are cast a member of the Liminal Layer Society, “an organization of spellcasters an organization of spellcasters who protect the world from entities that leak from the Void.”
Players can choose between four characters, each offering a unique playstyle and spell list. Many different endings are available, and the developer promises the experience will become “dark, chaotic, and confusing.” Sixteen different endings are currently available.
Descend through 444 floors of dungeon to battle against the Void Gods intent on invading our reality: the player must battle enemies to collect sigils in order to battle them, but each battle risks your resources and survival. If the player dies, they are sent deeper into the dungeon, randomly, with another chance to collect what they need for the fight.
An initial update of bugfixes will be available on August 31, 2024, with an additional, substantial update available on September 27, 2024: steamdeck and controller support, keybind settings, graphic and sound overhauls, a more expansive soundtrack, additional difficulty settings (including “SAFE” and “Chaos”), ending animation sequences, a more transparent spell and stats system, and a refined UI.
The game has many flashing lights, and screen / post-processing effects. A safe mode is currently in development.
The developer wrote in a statement:
Before I made video games, I played video games. From a consoomer perspective, there’s a lot of improvements Liminal Void needs. A lot of the people who bought it are super into it despite that. They’re crazy! But I like crazy! Regardless, I want to make this game as accessible as possible. For whatever reason Liminal Void upsets you, you have my humblest apologies. Liminal Void was meant to have a perfect bug-free release. It was planned thoroughly with prototypes and such even before the project began. Sadly, a lot of real life stuff happened. I didn’t factor them too much until it was too late. Liminal Void was two months delayed. Eventually I decided the release had to happen. This was my first game. If I wanted to take this path seriously, I need to just get it out the door. The reception, feedback, and honesty is what I need to improve at doing these kinds of things.
Once again, to everyone who has purchased the game,
Thank You!
Liminal Void is available on Steam.
