Two New Vaesen Expansions Coming to Kickstarter for Halloween

The Mythic North returns this October! VaesenNordic Horror Roleplaying will be returning to Kickstarter with two new expansions and a new starter set and refreshed core rulebook. The first expansion is Mythic Carpathia, a companion volume to Mythic Britain and Ireland, written by a team of Polish and Ukranian writers; it serves as a new central campaign location in Eastern Europe. The second book is City of My Nightmares by Kiku Pukk Härenstam, which takes players into a capitol city on the edge of magical chaos. Both books are illustrated by Johan Egerkrans and Anton Vitus.

The new starter set contains abridged rules, character sheets, custom dice, maps, and the introductory mystery The Haunting of Castle Gyllencreutz.

This expansion explores the folklore of central and eastern Europe. The material covers the history of characters of the Prague branch of the Society, a gazetteer of the city (complete with adventure locations and details about the secret societies), and over a dozen new local mythical beings including Drekavac, Golem, Baba Yaga, and vampires (the art suggests some form of Vlad the Impaler, or Dracula, is afoot, specifically). Beyond the setting information, three new mysteries are included, which are set in Prague, Ukrane, and Transylvania.

If the stretch goal is reached, Mythic Carpathia will include large, separate maps of Mythic Carpathia and the city of Prague.

It’s time to wander south to the busy streets of Prague, where history and myths collide in an unusual fashion. Explore the Pravda Society that deals with the phenomena from all over Mythic Carpathia and beyond. Visit old cities, deep forests, and high mountains to find colorful folklore and myths.

City of My Nightmares is a full-length campaign in four parts. Over the course of these mysteries, the players are invited to the capitol of their campaign’s country as chaos breaks out (written with 19th century Stockholm in mind, the campaign can be adapted to suit Mythic Britain and Ireland‘s London, Mythic Carpathia‘s Prague, or any Gothic metropolis of the era). Grisly murders break out, embroiling the player characters in a deeper mystery about the origins of the Society itself.

If the stretch goal is reached, City of My Nightmares will include a separate map of Stockholm and a huge newspaper handout (400x558mm).

Did you think you were safe from the vaesen in the crowds and lights of the city? Think again. Unspeakable horrors lurk in the dark alleys, crawl underneath the cobblestone streets, or soar through the twilight skies above.

The Vaesen Kickstarter will begin on October 29, 2024. You can sign up to be alerted upon the beginning of the campaign at the link.
