Boss Rush Banter: Will We See a Nintendo Direct this February?

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, we now have a formal Switch 2 announcement with a console-specific Direct on April 2nd, 2025. As we enter the second month of the year, will we be seeing any other Nintendo Direct to showcase games in the pipeline this year for the original Switch beforehand?

Historically, Nintendo has held a Direct in February:

  • 2/21/2024
  • 2/8/2023
  • 2/9/2022
  • 2/17/2021
  • 2/20/2020 (Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct)

However, nothing is ever guaranteed, and recently, Nate the Hate indicated that he is unaware of a Direct occurring this month. He is only aware of a Sony State of Play. For reference, Nate the Hate did accurately call when the Switch 2 would be announced.

Do we have the facts? No. But for sake of discussion, Nintendo has set a precedence of streaming a Direct during the month of February, and although we are expecting a new console, we still need games to fill the year’s pipeline until the Switch 2 officially drops. So far, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD released in January, and we know of only three other titles:

  • Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition: March 20
  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – TBD
  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A – TBD

We don’t even need a full-blown Direct; it could be a Partner or Indie Direct. Something. Anything! A three-game pipeline doesn’t seem realistic, so announcements in the near-future only makes sense; however, if we don’t see a Direct until April, be prepared for a minor dry spell.
