HoYoverse has been popping off with releasing sneak peaks into Genshin Impact‘s new region Nod Krai and its characters. So far, the nation has many promises. There are interesting story and lore elements to discover in the nation, a large ensemble of characters for players to learn about, and a vast land to explore with new music to enjoy.
Nod Krai is meant to be a nation where HoYoverse seeks to finally weave its story threads. It’s a nation where the story is going to prepare the game’s climax, ensuring the developers give the players a better picture of the game’s lore to prepare them for Snezhnaya.
The reveal of Nod Krai began with the Song of the Welkin Moon, a web event to tease about Nod Krai’s map locations and the different factions of characters to appear in the nation. This was quickly followed by a developer’s stream “Behind the Scenes of Genshin Impact ‘Let’s Start with Nod Krai.’”
The lore of Genshin Impact has long been hidden with limited-time events and with the written lore in items. It’s easy for many players to be behind on the history of Teyvat and where the story is culminating because of this. The developers hoped to utilize Nod Krai to break these gaps of knowledge, preparing travellers to the culmination of the game’s story in Snezhnaya.
Although players were certainly excited for more information, the release of content HoYoverse offered blew everyone away. Firstly came the “Teyvat Chapter Interlude Trailer: The Gods’ Limits” revealing the Shades. The Four Shades – of Life, Death, Time, and Space – are supposed to meet when called. Yet, this trailer reveals that the Shade of Space (Asmoday) is absent, and has perhaps turned away from the Heavenly Principle to a new master that she loves more than her own self.
Furthermore, players are shown Pierro, the Zeroth Harbinger. He is a survivor of Khaenri’ah and is able to gaze upon the Shades’ meeting. And with him comes an understanding of the presence of the Fatui’s presence in Nod Krai outside of attempting to harness the moon’s power. Columbina, the Damsellete, seems to have gone rogue. She needs to be retrieved for whatever reason.
After the 5.8 livestream, HoYoverse released a small trailer at the end revealing more peaks into Nod Krai’s development. The small parts revealed show a beautiful land of purples and blues. It largely resembles Enkanomiya, a location with an old society that revealed much about the game’s lore and origin.
More questions appeared as HoYoverse didn’t stop there. “The Song of the Welkin Moon Teaser: Moonlit Ballad of the Night” dropped just a few days after the livestream. The teaser showed off the roster of characters to be seen in Nod Krai including familiar ones such as Varka and Alice, notable characters players have known about since earlier 1.0 versions of the game. The trailer came with a set of releases on X (formerly known as Twitter) showcasing each revealed character with their name, known alias, and faction.
With Version 5.8 just on the cusp of releasing, it’s sure to bring a lot of answers and more questions. The summertime event is renowned in the community for foreshadowing the coming nation and its Archon Quest. With Ineffa’s own Character Teaser released, revealing her core is a Secret Automaton’s core, it only beggars the question on how her arrival and story will mirror that of Nod Krai’s and the moon.
We are only a few patches away from the release of Nod Krai, and HoYoverse seems to be gearing up for something big. What are your thoughts on the sneak peaks of Nod Krai? Which character are you most anticipating? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below or in the Boss Rush Discord!
