HoYoverse has just released a video showing behind the scenes content for Genshin Impact’s upcoming region, Snezhnaya. For most players, this is one of the most exciting nations to release. It foretells the ending of the game, the wrap up of the story. It is the last region of the game.
The nation is likely planned to be released August 12, a little earlier compared to other regions. Players predict this through the reward code given at the end of the video, Snezhnaya20260812. This code will expire April 27 at 12:00 AM UTC-4. Genshin Impact has been releasing redemption codes with important dates related to planned release content dates or hints to upcoming content, so many players think this will be the date for Snezhnaya’s release.

HoYoverse shows small peeks for what Snehznaya may look like. Players see a large, snowy landscape with a giant fortress in the background, the Aurora Borealis in the sky, and a large, lit-up train making its way towards the fortress. It’s a beautiful landscape, one that matched what many players thought the region may look like.
The developers said that they are interested in figuring out how to more dynamically integrate the train and railway system into the game, not as merely something for transportation like other games have done. What if there is a camp set up at train stations? What if a station is converted into a theater? What if there is actual gameplay in the train carriages? These are all questions they are challenging themselves to consider and answer in Snezhnaya. Their main goal is to use the train as a form of cultural expression just like many other environment features of the game.
Snezhnaya will take inspiration from Eastern Europe and the Arctic Circle. It’s meant to be a frigid, harsh biome, so it makes sense to take influence from these regions. They intend to mix these real-world environments with that of the Teyvat’s own rules and environment. The Fatui who are stationed in Snezhnaya are known to be industrious with many large lab stations. The nation must then reflect this as the Fatui’s headquarters.
Another important aspect to Snezhnaya’s creation is the element, Cryo. Cryo has often been linked with the term preservation. It can preserve and store memories. It can act as a battery source. So, what if Cryo was used to seal some sort of ancient power or concept? What do the travelers need in order to tap into this seal? The developers are integrating interesting and new ideas into the environment that will be important for Teyvat’s story.
Not only that, but they want to use Cryo as a more environmental field element. It’s a similar idea as to how grass can be burned in Teyvat and then Swirled using Anemo. It’s a use of elements in the natural world. Cryo had primarily taken a role in part as freezing objects that are wet. But, how much more could the developers take this concept?
Furthermore, the developers intend to create the Marvelous Gadget. This tool will allow players to reshape the environment, making each player’s world unique to their own making. In fact, they plan to ensure that players in co-op can both enjoy the feature and share their differences.
The music was touched upon in the video as well. The developers note that they want to use a lot of classical symphonic elements. It’s going to be a lot more solemn music that take inspiration from Slavic cultural folk music. The music should also include more grand and introspective pieces that are more Modernist as well. Romantic, in a way.
Music plays in the background of the video, but it was the last piece that really caught my ear. It was dark; it felt very lonely. An organ played long notes in the background in contrast to a lone piano playing shorter notes. A clockwork chime can be heard throughout the piece. It feels like being a city at night, snow falling from the sky. People often tend to get introspective, maybe feel a little lonely as they look at the warm lights inside homes while they wander outside. It’s a perfect piece that describes how they want to portray parts of Snezhnaya.
Combat is also an aspect they touched upon in the video. The Fatui are known as a militaristic force, so they should work together and have tactical maneuvers in combat. In combat, most enemies act individually while relying on elemental reactions. But, to reflect the Fatui, the developers plan to have the enemies in Snezhnaya fight more tactically.

Excitingly, the video also briefly showcased a possible new outfit for the travelers. Players received a new outfit in Nod Krai following the main Archon questline, so players have high hopes to gain more cosmetics for the Traveler’s model. It looks like a new vibe for the player, something a little darker but futuristic. Hopefully it is a new skin for travelers rather than concept art.
The behind the scenes for Snezhnaya was exciting to see and hear about. I’m waiting in anticipation for what new things the developer will bring to the game and how they will change the dynamics they have already established.
