As you likely know if you’re reading this article, April 26 (or 4/26) is celebrated by fans everywhere as Alien Day, as the date corresponds to the designation of the planet on which the film Aliens takes place, LV-426. Game publishers, Marvel, Disney, and even fans release special artwork and make big announcements on the date, and it’s become a yearly event to contemplate all things Alien.
While most are hoping for some major news about the upcoming sequel to Alien: Romulus or perhaps a trailer for the much-talked-about sequel to Alien: Isolation, I’m hoping we get a slew of other news that might not make as big of a splash. (Don’t get me wrong, I’d definitely kiss a Facehugger for those reveals too.) Part of what makes Alien Day so great are the unexpected tributes or announcements no one saw coming.
So here’s a few that I’m hoping for:
- Alien LEGO: I think it’s time we got a quality LEGO set for Alien. While the powers that be would likely release a set of the Nostromo with Big Chap and Ripley, I’ll be honest that I’d actually prefer a Hadley’s Hope set. Imagine a dual layered set that had the colony command center on one side, sewers beneath and an access tunnel that Bishop crawls through; while on the other side could be the Atmospheric Processor with the hive and Queen underneath. Instant buy for me!
- Alien 3 (Assembly Cut) 4K Physical Release: A lot has been made of the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 being made available for streaming on HBO Max. While this has been fantastic news for fans, the unfortunate reality of streaming is that it can be gone without a moment’s notice. As many have pointed out, owning physical media is now more important than ever. With the hype around the Assembly Cut, this would be a great time to make it available to everyone in crystal clear 4K.
- Alien Arcade Bundle for Consoles and PC: the Alien franchise has a celebrated history of shoot ’em up and beat ’em up arcade games. Aliens Versus Predator and Alien Armageddon are two examples that I always enjoyed but have a hard time tracking down. Yes, they are available to emulate, but I’d be happy to pay for copies of a physical edition I could enjoy on my Xbox and big-screen TV. Why not make a bundle that fans will be all over for Alien Day?
Beyond these long shots, I’m hoping that Titan Books announces a new Alien novel and that we get an update on the sequel to Aliens: Fireteam Elite and Alien: Rogue Incursion.
