Old School Thought, New School Flair
Hello everyone,
I want to open up the year with what I intend to be a monthly piece, a new part of the website that will hopefully deliver something positive, uplifting, inspirational, and fun as well as an update on what is going on here at Boss Rush Games simply titled A Letter from the Editor. There aren’t a lot of outlets or magazines out there who do this sort of thing anymore, and as someone who grew up reading those antiquated forms of information, I hope to bring a little old school thought into content creation with new school flare.
What we’ve built here in little over a year is nothing short of surprising, to be honest with you. Coming out of the abrupt ending to Nerds Gone Rogue and only having what at the time was known as The NX Show in October of 2019, all Ed, Jesse, and I, along with some help from our friend Ray Apollo, knew is that we wanted to continue podcasting and creating things together. We tried to bring some things with us, we tried to create variations on things from the past, but there wasn’t anything that was motivating. I felt defeated and I really didn’t know if I wanted to do any of this anymore. Even when we changed the name to Boss Rush Games and The Boss Rush Podcast, I still felt like I wanted to let it go.
Then in February, before COVID-19 hit our world harder than we imagined, I went on a vacation to Disney World with my dad. We took a “boys trip” to the place we loved most. I turned my brain off, enjoyed our time together, talked to my dad about what was important, and really refocused on what I wanted to do creatively. Disney World, for me at least, has always had a way of allowing me to reset, eliminating stress, and unblocking my mind. I came back with an idea of what I wanted to do, what I wanted Boss Rush to be, and knew it was time to build a team around us to see if we could pull this off.
Since then, we grew from 3 people and one show at that point to eighteen members who contribute to Boss Rush in various amounts. We brought back fan favorite Nintendo Pow Block, created a new identity with Arsenal X, and added two more main shows in Cross Roads and Tower Casuals. Our dreams of Expansion Pack have not only been fully realized, but became something more, with interviews and a bunch of different, unique ideas with wonderful personalities. Putting on live shows and having real time interaction with our fans has been a wonderful surprise as well. We have added a great crew in Logan and Austin from LAN Party to head up a unique entertainment division. I never imagined that we would have accomplished all of this in fourteen months, and it all comes down to our friends and contributors believing in a single goal: Be Better. It’s been our mantra since day zero and with very minimal hiccups along the way we have stayed the course.
January is going to be a busy month here at Boss Rush. We are adding new shows, two new branches in Boss Rush Entertainment and The Boss Rush Podcast Network for our friends to connect, and new plans on being more than just a few podcasts. We’re refocusing our writing efforts to provide more reviews and blogs, prepping major video content, and with a little help and luck, provide a major Game of the Year show. There’s going to be a lot for you to consume in the coming months and I couldn’t be more excited.
This year has been a really great year for us as a group, especially in a year where the next day for a lot of us was uncertain. It’s humbling to know that so many of you took the time to listen to our shows, either for entertainment or escaping the issues happening in real life. I am also really proud of my team members for being as involved as you all are.
When each one of you started, I urged you to only participate in what you had time for and what you were passionate about. Passion is what drives us and when you lose the passion, the content will suffer. I know that from my personal experiences. I’m incredibly proud of all of you and what you put into this. Creating content on the internet is something I am truly passionate about, as I know a lot of people are. But as I have grown as a creator, I’ve learned a lot about what to do and what not to do. So this is what I want to leave you with: if you’re a creator, create with your heart, create with a passion for it. Create for you. Don’t start by creating for an audience because that’s when you lose your passion. I did that for years and I almost quit everything. Your audience will come. I hope everyone had a safe and happy new year. Let’s make 2021 something special.
