Boss Rush Banter: Should Mario Kart Transition to Nintendo Kart?

If we’ve learned anything from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’s that more is better. The roster features a one time unthinking 80 characters and continues to expand; and while there will always be those Melee die-hards, most in the Smash community recognize Ultimate as the best iteration yet of the beloved fighting franchise. Similarly, the Mario Kart franchise has expanded its roster of drivers over the years, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe boasting 41 characters. The list of drivers has expanded beyond the Mushroom Kingdom to include Link from The Legend of Zelda, Isabelle and the Villagers from Animal Crossing, and even Mii characters. At this point, it’s worth asking–should Mario Kart transition to Nintendo Kart and open up it’s rosters to include other favorites from its celebrated franchises?

The possibilities of such a game are exciting. Imagine Samus edging out a furious Ridley at the finish line of a Metroid based level, celebrating with a quick swap to the Zero Suit. How awesome would it be to have heavy-weight racers in a big bad heat featuring Wolf, Ganondorf, and King K. Rool? What kind of items could be featured for an inclusion of Bayonetta, or better yet–how about featuring a Pokeball item and Pikachu as a driver?

Still, the idea of a Nintendo Kart might not sit well with everyone. There’s something nostalgic about the feel of Mario Kart, especially for those who have been playing since the early days. Perhaps expanding the roster would lessen the charm of the Mushroom Kingdom racing game.

Tell us what you think! Should Mario Kart transition to a Nintendo Kart model in the next game? Share your reactions in the comments below.
